03 May:
Rum II First Tuesday with Ian Burrell at the Player
Before Ian Burrell became the UK Rum Ambassador, he dabbled in music and could be found rapping as alter ego ‘Via B’, on ITV co-presenting two shows and also playing professional basketball in the British Basketball League (almost as good as the NBA?)
Ian is now heavily involved in the vibrant world of Rum and is the founder and brains behind the infamous annual Rumfest. His session will focus less on the history and production of Rum that was covered by Tony Hart and more on the application of the spirit and the thought processes behind the way we sell spirits and the way we use them in drinks when behind the stick.
07 May:
137th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, KY, USA.
Not only a celebration of thoroughbred race horses and the Bluegrass county but a great excuse to crack open some Woodford reserve and sink a few Mint Juleps. The “Official Mint Julep” of the Derby is the Early Times Mint Julep and has been for the past 18yrs. Early Times is not technically bourbon, its Kentucky whiskey but regardless, around 120,000 Juleps are sucked down over the two day event. Woodford Reserve plays a large part at the Derby as the “Official bourbon” and was last year the backbone of 73 elaborate $1000 Mint Julep’s served in sterling silver Julep cups designed by Tiffany & Co. www.kentuckyderby.com
10 May:
Wine Second Tuesday with Dirceu Vianna Junior MW at The Player

He is based in London where he is the Wine Development Director at Coe Vintners. He is a speaker in several international events, a wine educator, consultant and a judge at selected wine competitions around the world. Apart from that "Junior" is an independent wine writer and has made several appearances on radio and television in South America.
